Default ...it's all about the money...

Hi,

I think almost every poster has included this in their reply: After the initial price of the game, GW is free to play.

That is the bottom line with me as well. I wouldn't have given GW the time of day if it would have been using a montly pay scheme. Having said this I am extremely satisfied with this game. It is my first real foray into MMO gaming and I love it. Gotta be the best 50 bucks I spent on a game to date.

Concerning WoW, I have not played it (although I own WarCraftII, StarCraft and Diablo games) so I will not comment on gameplay issues. I most probably would like it as well and become hooked on it. I am not however, willing to shell out 15 bucks (or any money for that matter) a month for the 'right' to play a game I've already bought. This is not just concerning WoW but all of the other 'pay to play' games out there. I hope GW changes the Game Developer mentality of monthly charges. I have to say I was surprised to hear that WoW has Character deletion if there is a break in the monthly payments. Very shocking if true...and just another reason IMHO to never buy a game based on monthly payments.

later,

I don't think that's true. On the WoW website it's clearly stated:

When your subscription ends (either through cancellation or expiring), your World of Warcraft account and characters will remain saved on the server, so that you will be able to return at any time and pick up where you left off.

For what little it's worth, my position can be summed up easily enough: GW is beautiful, elegant and has no monthly fee. WoW is ugly, brute force, and has a monthly fee.

I play GW.
Even if you are tired dont comment on a topic that you know nothing about.

I have played WoW for 4 months. I have a lvl 52 Paladin. I enjoyed the game. Here's why I quit for GW.

#1 In order to succeed and GET TO PvP in WoW a person HAS to grind until he is top level, or he will get smoked.

* In GW once you reach lvl 20 (which is what it takes to get you through the story portion of the game you will truly enjoy) EVERYONE is the same. The difference won't be in armor you got by grinding 300 hours or in that someone is 20 levels above you. It will be in skill. If you're skilled and you know how to play, you will win. Also GW allows you to recustumize your character an unlimited number of times and even change your secondary profession. In WoW you're stuck or you have to start all over.

#2 GRIND GRIND GRIND

* In GW griding is kept to a minimum. It takes very little time to get on your feet and have a great set of equipment and be the same level as everyone else so you can actually ENJOY the final part of the game, your goal and not your painful grinding which is required to get you there.

#3 LAG

* WoW server I was on was apparently in Netherlands and I got pretty bad lag pretty often. No lag in GW since everything except town zones are instanced.

# Not everything is instanced.

* True, dungeons in WoW are instanced, but most of the time, you will have to compete with other ppl just to kill a monster you need.

GW is truly instanced where the gameworld truly belongs to YOU and your party.

# Storyline

* I'm sorry, but I didn't find a story in WoW. Everything is based solely upon untied quests which are there simply to waste your time and make you grind in order to advance in lvl. GW actually has an interesting story which takes you through missions. And when you get to lvl 20, the story just begins as you continue the missions. Also ArenaNET will keep adding content.

# Server downtime

* WoW loves going down. Even when it's working like it should, it still goes down twice a week for maintanence at our expense.

# Everyone is on different servers

* I have friends playing on one server and I'm playing on another server, thus we can never meet.

In GW, EVERYONE is on the same server. So all your friends are there.

# 15$ a month

* I don't feel like paying 15$ a month for a game I've already paid $50.
GW is free.

Now what WoW does have over GW is a mail system and an auction house. Those are absolutely necessary in GW. Mail for such a community intense game is a must. And auction house will get rid of all the spam that is in GW right now.

The good news is, if you go to GW website, there is a fansite interview in which it is stated that ArenaNET is DEFINETLY going to add an auction house in the near future. I believe any blemishes that GW has, will be corrected in the future. Unlike WoW, GWs updates are instant and there is never any server downtime.

I just have to say a couple things. The whole reason why players get into these level grinds is because the whole reason they want to level is to get that new skill as a reward to leveling. Like in CoH: "I can't wait to get to level 14 so I can fly". It is this drive that people level grind, but at the same time, it is this idea that MMO can become boring. Almost all MMO's have the design that the higher level you are, the longer it takes the level up. This then means that you will go a longer time before getting that new skill. ----This is the sole reason why I never finished or got to the high level content in any MMO!!!----

...Except for GW!!! I think it is the most understated feature of this game. There is NO level grind. The mere fact that getting a new skill does not depend on whether you just leveled up or not is so amazing and I can't believe it isn't used more often. It is because of this that GW does not get boring.

I will say this. If you love MMO's because of the rewards you get after leveling, then buy GW!! At level 20 in GW, you will have far more skills and powers for your character than you will have for any character higher level in WoW. In GW I kept counting my skills as I leveled, and I had like 40 some spells at level 8, now I have 3 level 20 RPG character and each one has over 80 each. It's crazy.

Point number two that goes to GW over WoW is the strategy involved. Not only will you have more abilities for your character, but those abilities will have so many uses it is unbelievable. One skill you may have at your disosal can come in handy in about 10 different ways due to the strategy involved with the game. If you like combat that isn't: "1) Tape your left mouse button down, 2) Walk Away, 3) Come back in 10 minutes to collect loot." If you like combat that takes skill, then go with GW.

That's my two cents.

Well, Ive been playing WoW for 5 months now, and frankly Im bored stiff of it, once you hit the magic lvl 60, the whole game stops, there is nothing to do, there is no end game, all the end game consists of is farming amazing gear from instances.

WOW! spending 2-4 hours in an instance trying to get 1 piece of good gear, sounds a bit sad to me, I ordered Guild Wars today, and it should be here by tomorrow, Im going to play it slowely and enjoy the game, and get a feel for it, all the while keeping my WoW account frozen, because it still is an amazing game.

As for the graphics issue, I dunno if I will have a problem, I have the new SLI Geforce graphics, which for those of you who dont know, its x2 256mb 6800GT graphics cards bridged together, and its amazing, I also have 1G of RAM, I hope its enough, as i cant be bothered to read the requirments, but i must say, looking and the screenshots on this forum, HOLY SHIT! the graphics are almost life like.

And I do love the look of those females, in nice armor :P, just a question, they all look nice and thin, with perfect skin and a nice chest (cough, boobies :P hehe, cough) can you make a really fat female character with like loads of warts and stuff? andyway << man I wrote a lot, cya

Why would you WANT to?? Never mind, don't answer that.

J/K

You can't alter the body shape of your character beyond its profession, sex, and height. I guess it helps to make the game run more smoothly with only 12 distinct body types.
